is your website helping you win leads or quietly losing them?

Your website might look great. It might even be something you’re proud of. But is it actually pulling its weight when it comes to helping you win new business?

The truth is, most small business websites aren’t broken. But they’re also not converting.

In this post, I’ll walk you through three of the most common issues I see when reviewing client websites and what you can do to fix them without needing a full redesign and that you can do by yourself.

1. unclear value proposition

This one is a silent killer.

When someone lands on your homepage, they should know immediately:

  • who you help
  • what you help them do
  • why they should care

Instead, most sites lead with vague and fluffy headlines like:

It sounds impressive, but doesn’t actually say anything.

how to fix it: Use a simple formula that tells people exactly what you do:

For example:

No jargon. No nonsense. Just clarity.

2. weak or hidden calls to action

So many websites have one lonely “contact us” button… sitting quietly at the bottom of the page.

That’s not a call to action. That’s a polite suggestion.

If someone is interested in what you do, make it easy for them to take the next step — don’t make them scroll 12 feet to find a contact form.

how to fix it: Include clear, confident CTAs in the right places:

get a quote in 60 seconds
book a free call
download the checklist

And don’t just add it once. Give people multiple chances to take action as they scroll.

3. slow load times

Even the most beautiful site in the world is useless if it loads slowly, especially on mobile.

We’ve all done it. A site drags for more than 3 seconds and we’re already back on Google clicking something else.

how to fix it:

  • compress your images
  • remove anything bloated or unnecessary
  • check your speed using PageSpeed Insights
  • and most importantly – test your site on 4G (not just your Wi-Fi)

You don’t need to be lightning-fast. Just fast enough that people stick around.
